Coachford National School were delighted to host a Dyslexia Awareness Day recently.
Coachford National School hosted a red and white dress up day to celebrate the visit of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie team member Clíona Healy with the O'Duffy Cup. She was joined by All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie team members Aoife Barrett, Meadhbh Ring and Emma Flanagan (past pupil of Coachford NS) with the McGrath Cup. Corcaigh Abú!

Well done to Coachford National School who won a Gold Award in the recent Muintir na Tíre Schools’ Garden Competition! The competition is an initiative that encourages schools to develop gardens and engage pupils in caring for their environment. Children and staff attended an award ceremony at the County Hall, where they were presented with their award by the Mayor of County Cork, Frank O'Flynn.
To celebrate this achievement, the children display their gold medal and certificate around the beautiful garden sculpture depicting a boat and fisherman. This sculpture, created by parents and planted by the children, reflects the long tradition of water sports in the Coachford area. Congratulations to the pupils, staff, and volunteers whose hard work and dedication have brought this honour to the school.

Our Grandparent's Day was a great success! We were delighted to invite all grandparents to our school for a social gathering where they were entertained with music, song and poems from all classes.

Miss Kelleher's 3rd and 4th class conducted science experiments where they investigated states of matter. They investigated the effects of applying heat, cooling down and mixing certain substances.
3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class took advantage of the fine weather recently and played 'duck duck goose' together on yard.
All classes in Coachford NS have been very busy preparing for Green School Global Awareness Day. We had parents from different countries visiting our school talking to the children about the countries they are from, their cultures and customs. Also our Green Schools Committee visited each class and presented an Energy YouTube information video.

We were delighted to hold the official unveiling of our new Coachford 200 Mural. Parents along with members of the Coachford's Artelier Group and Coachford 200 Committee were in attendance. The Student Council informed the audience how this mural came about and how it was completed.
Coachford NS were delighted to support the Surgeon Noonan Appeal with a Christmas Jumper Day and bake sale held by 4th and 5th class. Jennifer Cotter, a past pupil of the school and a medical student from UCC, will be travelling to work voluntarily in Africa as part of the Surgeon Noonan team in July. 4th and 5th class presented Jennifer with a cheque for this great cause.

We were delighted to welcome the Aghabullogue Junior C Camogie Team to our school. We had a green and white day to celebrate and congratulate them on their recent County Final Win of the Lily Grant Cup.
We would like to wish the Aghabullogue Intermediate Camogie and Football Teams the very best of luck over the weekend.
Ms Kelleher's third and fourth class explored the school grounds on a nature trail. They identified different plants and trees in our school environment.

'Festive Steps with Santa'
Our recent charity walk 'Festive Steps with Santa' was a huge success.
The students and teachers of Coachford National School walked from the school to the village and on to the pathway of the GAA grounds with our very special visitor Santa! After returning to school the children had hot chocolate and treats. All money raised will be donated to 'Make a Wish Foundation'.

The children have been busy making decorations for a Christmas Tree which was kindly donated to our school by Murphy Fuels, Macroom.

The children have created these beautiful Christmas art pieces in school recently.
Ms Kelleher's 2nd and 3rd class were exploring the pH scale and investigating bases and acids. They created their own pH scales using vinegar, mouthwash, lemon juice, lemonade, soap, water and baking soda while using cabbage juice as an indicator. They also looked at identifying bases and acids using litmus paper.
Ms Troy's Senior Infants, along with Ms Keane's 1st and 2nd class were planting some spring bulbs this week with Ms O Sullivan.
Miss Kelleher's 2nd and 3rd class watched a science video during Science Week and some of the children recreated some of the experiments at home. They also took part in a Science Week zoom show called 'Dr Ken's Circus Science Show'.
2nd and 3rd class investigate and demonstrate the damaging effects of sugary drinks on an egg shell, similar to the effects that would occur on tooth enamel.

The Student Council are delighted with the fantastic response to the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal. There were 88 boxes donated by our families. The Christmas Shoeboxes will be distributed to children in disadvantaged countries.
The Student Council ran an art event this week to highlight the school's 'Drop Off Pick Up Safely' campaign.
