Physical Education in Coachford NS

All classes receive 60 minutes timetabled PE every week.
All classes are taught at least 5 different PE strands every year.

Strand priority for school year 2018/2019

Our school prioritises a different PE strand for further development each year. This year we have decided to focus on the Athletics strand. Members of staff have undertaken CPD in Athletics recently. We now have access to Move Well, Move Often Fundamental Movement Skills in Athletics handbooks and resources as a result. New knowledge, ideas and resources have been shared out amongst staff. As a staff we utilise the PSSI lesson plans and we strive to implement new teaching and methodologies in all of our Athletics lessons. During active school week we had teaser lesson in movement skills from Fun Fitness. The children also learned new skills in athletics as part of our after school activity club. And now, the children are  putting their sprinting and relay skills to the test in preparation for Cork City sports! Taking all of this into account, we feel that we have successfully prioritised Athletics this year.

Active homework is given to children on PE days and during active school week. This includes movement and cardio exercises. For example, during active school week the children of 3rd and 4th class received running, jumping jacks, press ups and planks for their homework.

PAWS

Irish Water Safety has created an educational resource for primary schools called PAWS (Primary Aquatics Water Safety). PAWS teaches children how to be safe around water in homes, farms, pools, beaches and on our waterways. Our school utilises these excellent resources to teach the children about water safety.
